March 26, 200422 yr The passenger side automatic seat belt mechanism is stuck forward on my '90 Legacy. I can manually move it most of the way backwards, but when I turn the ignition, it just returns to the forward position again. I try this with the door closed, verifying on the dash that the door is in fact closed, while sitting on the passenger seat. Also, there is an LED icon of a guy with a seatbelt on the dash blinking as if to tell me something is wrong with the seatbelt. Well, yeah. I'm hoping it's a fuse or a relay or something. Has anyone had this problem? If not, what else could I check? Help?!
March 26, 200422 yr Here's the factory manual scans on how to put the auto seatbelt computer into diagnostic mode and check what's wrong the hardest part is finding the stupid little connector to put it in diag mode http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru_manual_scans/FSM_Scans/autoseatbeltdiag1.jpg http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru_manual_scans/FSM_Scans/autoseatbeltdiag2.jpg http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru_manual_scans/FSM_Scans/autoseatbeltdiag3.jpg
March 26, 200422 yr Author Thanks Josh, but the links you included don't load for me. I can't get to: http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru_manual_scans/FSM_Scans/autoseatbeltdiag1.jpg or... http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8080 or even... http://www.main.experiencetherave.com Do you have a copy of these stored away somewhere?
March 26, 200422 yr the links work.....are you at work.....it's possible they won't load due to corporate firewall. If you are not at work.....and still can't access them....let me know and I'll have to move them to another server. also....what browser are you using?
March 26, 200422 yr Author Oh, that makes sense. Yeah. I'm at work, and I don't know how they have the firewall set up. I'll try these when I get home. Thank you very much!
March 26, 200422 yr Author Hey Josh, that worked! I got trouble code 21: "Open and closed ends of passenger's door latch switch are ON." I'm guessing this means my door latch switch is not working like it's supposed to. I'm assuming this is not the door sensor switch that you can hold in with your thumb, but a switch inside the door next to the latch? Any insight as to fixing or replacing a door latch switch? Dan
March 29, 200422 yr Dan, Yeah the switch is part of the latch mechanism inside the door. With the door open, take a screw driver and move the latch until it clicks and such. See if you notice any issues. To undo, lift up on the handle and undo the latch. You might have to take apart the door to see inside there too.
June 25, 200421 yr Hey everyone-- I'm having the same problem in my 91. I ran the diag and got a code 14--"Rear limit switch on driver's side remains on." Is this a DIY job that anyone's done before? Any tips on where to start? Thanks!
June 26, 200421 yr Does this code refer to the p/b control unit under the rear speaker? It was clicking a lot when I was connecting the belt at the floor, but I would think that if this box was the problem, both belts wouldn't work. The passenger side works fine. Any tips are much appreciated.
June 28, 200421 yr If the code points to a limit switch, I would start there, maybe test the switch, make sure it's ok.
