August 29, 201213 yr Hi, I have a 1986 Brumby utility and the heater wont work. When I adjust the temp dial to heat nothing other than cool air comes out. I have heard that it may be the switch tap on the heater hoses under the bonnet, any help would be great. Thanks in advance. Sorry but I also live in Australia where the winter here now only gets to about 8 degrees celcius. The car had been sitting for about 5 years before I got it and started to fix it up. August 29, 201213 yr i have a 92' brumby that did the same thing a couple of years back......the heater control in the dash controls an air divert-er valve that swings one way for hot and the other way for cold or any place in between for a .....kinda like a mini sheep or cattle drafting gate. your problems will be probably either be in the vacuum hose that powers it or a stuck or ripped diaphragm. Callum PS....its a prat to get to as well....have fun:burnout:
August 30, 201213 yr Author Thanks Callum, I checked the vacuum hose under the bonnet and it sucks fine! Not sure about diaphrams but thought I might pull out the dash and see whats what. Will let you all know when I find out. Stuart
August 30, 201213 yr it would be worth once you get into it, to move the diverter gate by hand a few times just to make sure that its not catching a piece of crud/leaf etc.....i think (IIRCR) that you can do that without removing that whole heater from the dash if thats all free and ok, then the culprit is probably the diaphragm pot that actuates it
August 31, 201213 yr Author Thanks for the help guys, I got stuck into it and pulled the dash out. The problem ended up being twofold - the thread on the heater dial had stripped and the whole switch moved rather thatn the wheel on the rear. I fixed that by adding a washer and then the locking nut. The ither problem was the control gate under the bonnet near the firewall where 4 heater hoses enter. The gate was very stiff. I replaced that and bugger me, the car has hot air!!!! Cheers and thanks.......
September 1, 201213 yr Nice one!......you will be glad to have a warm cab in the mornings....i was up in inland NQ and the 'Territory for fair while and was fully ready for the heat..... no prick told me that it gets down to -10 at night in the winter.... i'm from the south of NZ which ain't the warmest place on earth and i damn near froze every night until i could make 800k dash to town to get my good sleeping bag and other gear.
