I'm new on this forum, and I have a quick question. I have a 2001 forester and the automatic trans is going out. If I act quickly I might be able to get a good deal on a newer trans, but I need to know what newer (2004 & up) trans would work. Or would it be easier to get the engine too and swap everything out? I need to get back to the guy real with what would  work.

Why a 2004 or later?

 

I would get a trans from any 99-2004 leg. outback. Or from another forester up to 2005. After that there were a few changes that may/may not interchange.

What do you mean the transmission is going out? Slipping? Could be just the clutch pack and duty c needs replaced/serviced
