Idle, Stuttering and Inconsistency. 85 GL.

Featured Replies

My 85 GL has an quite a temperament with its ea82 and hitachi carb. Some days it's perfect, some days it dies at every light.

Most days, when running well, it idles around 1800RPM. I have the idle set that high because... when running poorly it tries to idle around 600RPM before dying. Every once in awhile it feels like its stuttering when I give it throttle. And at other times it idles around 1000, mainly when warming up, and idles super rough...

On long trips, greater than an hour, it tends to begin stuttering, lose power and die at least once. I pull over, she starts, runs normal...

Also, the carb seems to be spitting gas at idle, I do not know if that's normal. It causes a very slight stutter in idle smoothness.

I'm fairly new to wrenching on my GL. So as detailed as possible is great.

I've cleaned the carb, checked vacuum hoses, new plugs and wires and replaced a very nasty fuel filter.

I'm tempted to replace all the vacuum hoses, thoughts?

Clogged jets and emulsions.

Remove the top of the carb, and the plugs on the bowl.

Drain it, unscrew and blow out the emulsion tubes. reassemble.
