Out of town and need some help (shift lock related on a 2008 impreza)

Featured Replies

First post. Bit of a crisis here as I'm stuck at the in-laws. Any help would be appreciated.

I can operate the shifter as long as I use the shift lock release (with the screwdriver), otherwise I can't shift it out of park.

My brake lights are fine.

Is it possible this is just a blown fuse and something I can fix myself?

Welcome to the USMB.

The shift lock solenoid is controlled by the shift lock controller by a swtich coming from the brake pedal.  it's possible the solenoid, the controller, or the switch may be bad.

My suggestion would be to just continue using the screwdriver until you get home and can have a shop look at it.  You won't hurt anything by using the screwdriver to get it out of park.
