overheating problems

Featured Replies

Hello everybody

My 03 forester has been having overheating problems i just bought a new radiator and installed it but still the car keeps overheating i took the thermostat out will that have any effect . Also my oil is good and no water is coming out of my tail pipe

Any suggestions

Subaru OE thermostat or an aftermarket cheapo?

When you refilled the system after replacing the radiator how much coolant did you put in? If any less than 1.5 gallons it isn't full. Very important that the system is completely full or you will have overheating problems. You have to fill the engine through the upper hose before filling the radiator.

No thermostat may cause the engine to run cold which will increase wear and waste gas.

With no thermostat let the engine run to operating temp then drive around the block once or twice. Look in the overflow container for bubbles being pushed out of the radiator. Bubbles in the overflow are an indicator of bad head gaskets.

Thanks for ur help i did see some bubbles on the container i will check my head gasket see if they are bad

I know you mentioned there's no water coming out, but I would still have the water pump checked out. My water pump went out and it caused some crazy overheating as well.
