1999 forester speedometer odometer and cruise control not working

Featured Replies

I have a 1999 forester that the speedometer, odometer and cruise control are not working. Manual transmission, speed dial not moving, millage and trip meter display frozen numbers and cruse not functioning. All happened suddenly. What are the potential causes? solutions?

There is a speedo sensor where a cable would be on the trans. It will be on the passenger side of the trans opposite the dipstick. See if it came unplugged or broke off.

Not fully clear on the location of sensor, after looking at schematics though, i checked all connections in area and nothing looks loose or broken.

Bad speed sensor or the plastic gear that drives the sensor could have stripped.

There were a few years where the gears for the sensor had a problem, I think 99 was the main one.
