I'm looking to buy a 1999 2.0 GL wagon but much prefer the earlier pre-facelift nose.

 

Does anyone know how straightforward a process, unfacelifting might be? I don't have any cars to examine but looking at pre/post facelift photos, it appears that the front wings/fenders and lamp units are essentially the same so I was hoping the substructure and mounting points for hinges and catches would be also.

 

Basically, can I bolt on an early type bonnet/hood, grille and front valance or is it likely to be much more complicated?

I'm no expert but I would think that since the unibody itself didn't change from what?? 1993 to 2001? the panels and trim bits would probably swap around pretty easily. If not a direct bolt-on job they'd be close enough that some minor adjustments here and there should get R done.

hood ,grille and headlights are really the only things that don't mix and match with every thing else (93-96 goes with 93-96 97+ w/ 97+) the bumpers if you get the grille hood and head lights from the same gen, you are good, then you can use older or newer front bumper cover corners and fenders.

Just to clarify, do you mean that so long as I switch all the parts together as a group (all pre 97) I will be ok..?

 

Incidentally I had a quick look on eBay for headlights and some are listed as fitting 1992-2000 which looks promising.
