Hey guys, I have a 98 Impreza Outback Sport with a second gen 2.2, the timing belt tensioner ripped the threads out, thus the
belt fell off. It needs new heads to say the least. Anyway, I managed to find a
set of 93 legacy 2.2 heads for super cheap, but I wanted to make sure they would
fit.

I have a headgasket kit for a 96 Impreza 2.2 laying around which I'm planning to use. I know the exhaust ports
are different, dual port for the 93, and single for the 98, but are there any
other differences? Will this HG kit fit, and will everything work together
except for the headers?

Thanks guys!
Robert

You may not need heads.

I'd hang a new timing belt on it and see how it runs before putting money into heads.

If it doesn't run well, then yes, 93 heads will work fine with the 96 head gaskets. Just have to find a dual port exhaust Y-pipe to put on it and you'll be good to go.

The 93 heads will have a different tappet style cam and rockers, so it may feel slightly different once its running. You can swap the roller cams and rockers from your old heads into the 93 heads if you feel like it. Just be sure to match the cams with the rockers.
