Fellas i own a 90 legacy wagon 15 yrs 275k miles my daughter blew up her first car of 5 years 93 loyale wagon great car she f-up shes looking at a 03 legacy 4 door sedan  ad says needs crank shaft im thinking needs motor any help on what year motors will work  thanks any help or why ad says crank shaft  thanks again

Crank timing probably means broken or skipped timing belt, which on that engine means bent valves.

Sometimes you can hang a new belt on it and catch a break. More than likely you have to pull the heads and put some new valves in, but that process covers all of the common issues with that engine, so its not a bad thing, especially if you can do the work yourself.

When the timing belt breaks a $7,000 car becomes a $2,000 car that can often be repaired for under a grand. If the rest of the car is decent and they don't want an outrageous amount for it its usually worth the gamble to fix the engine.
