Roadtrip woes -- EJ22 flexplate cracked

Featured Replies

Returned from my roadtrip earlier this week. In the middle of it a horrible clanking noise was coming from the engine under no load. Going up I-15 I was suprised to hear this when I stopped for gas in Idaho Falls. Hall's Automotive Subaru specialists said it was probably the flexplate between the engine and transmission. Which was good since a different source said my engine was gone and I was feeling ill thinking about how to tow the wagon back to Seattle. ($700 for a Uhaul van and car trailer.) Checked into a motel and car was fixed by noon the next day. Got back into Seattle 11 hours later.

Anyway, attached a photo of the damage. Shows middle section completely cracked off.
