A half shaft is a 2 piece driveshaft, I think maybe you mean a cv axle?

And no, I would not drive the car missing the front cv axle. If that cv axle is ruined, remove it, pull a cv axle from the back, put it in the front, and shift the transmission into Front Wheel Drive until you can buy a new cv axle to replace the missing rear one, then you can be 4WD again.
