Reinstalling center diff after seal replaced

Featured Replies

Hey Subaru Fans!

I'm in process of replacing the 5mt tranny in my moms '97 Outback, I noticed it leaking at the extension housing when I was filling it with oil. So, I looked up the procedure, and looked like all I need to do is remove the back plate. The center diff came out with it. Now the diff doesn't seem to be seating all the way in(I removed it from the shaft on the rear plate and installed it by itself)). The gear on the tail shaft hits the body of the diff. Do I need to persuade the diff with a mallet to seat it all the way?

If this is clear as mud I'll post a pic later, but right now I'm off to school!

thanks

Dave

It's in! all it needed was a few good tabs with a mallet.
