I know that sometimes it appears that I play the devil's advocate:lol: , but I have a polling question.

 

Has anyone ever replaced only a fuel filter and for a problem they were having, and it was fixed by this repair? If so, what was the problem?

I'm going by your text "fuel filter" not pump:

 

Both my '81 & '83 4WD Wagons would start running real bad, sputtering and within the day could barely run, one left me stranded. Replaced the fuel filter and running great again.
