Leaking ABS pump

Featured Replies

So I know that I have been loosing brake fluid for a while, I have topped it off a few times. I checked the usual culprits to no avail, brake calipers are dry.

During another under hood endeavor I think I found my leak. The frame rail under the ABS pump is soaked. (box, front right, behind the head light)

I tracked it around and it is definitely coming from the pump but the source does not seem to be on top and easy to see and

I dont want to go through the trouble to remove and inspect it just yet. So I ask you guys, has anyone had any experience here? What could be leaking?

On a final note this is the first car I have ever had with ABS, and I hate it. I can easily modulate better than it can. So I am also pondering deleting it.

bump, does no one know anything about this? I can see six brake lines on it. I assume four are going out and two are going in. None of these fittings are particularly wet

so i assume my problem is elsewhere, out of site.

What's the year and model? I had a 92 Legacy come in with a bad master cylinder after another shop did complete front brakes. I replaced the master but noticed it wouldn't bleed out properly. Found the ABS module was leaking from the backside where the case halves come together. Replaced it with a working used unit and sent it down the road.

its  96 Outback, 2.2. I see, I cant see these thing failing very often.

Not common, but someone else here just had a thread about one leaking a few days ago. Maybe it will become a common problem?

You can get rid of it but it will require a 4 port non-ABS master cylinder and running new lines.

You could also pop in a used unit (they're usually pretty cheap) and just leave it unplugged.
