Black Smoke

Featured Replies

I have an intermittent problem with my '94 2.2 Turbo. Sometimes, while accelerating, it will dog and blow a puff of black smoke out the exhaust. I'm thinking that maybe it's loading up on gas at this moment in time. Due to the intermittent nature of the problem, I don't want to take it in for service. I've seen times in the past when I've spent money on "best guesses" only to face the same problem again with less money in my checkbook. So how about it, any good guesses for things that I can check or do myself?

My '88 was doing this. I can't remember if it was the PCV or EGR replacement that corrected it though...

That sounds like an EGR problem. It seems to be definitely a problem of too rich a mixture under high vacuum conditions.

Thanks for the help, guys. Legacy777 - I'm on my way over to the board that you suggested. Thanks for the tip!
