September 12, 20169 yr So I bought a 2000 outback for my son real cheap ($200). The engine is done, can't turn it by hand. I'm looking to do a cheap as possible replacement. So my question is this. Can I use the 99 2.5 block and 2.2 phase 2 heads that are sitting in my shop and make it work. The block j know is good and the heads are brand new. I know I have to change the exhaust, but will this combo work? Thanks Dp213
September 12, 20169 yr Author By the way, the 99 block was from an outback, so it was kinda the phase 1 phase 2 motor they did in 99
September 12, 20169 yr Yes. Bolt it together and drive it. I have a single port Y-pipe For $20+ shipping if you want it.
September 12, 20169 yr Author Thank you. I have a couple laying around. What head gaskets? Phase 2 2.2, phase 1 2.5
September 13, 20169 yr Phase 2. Technically that 2.5 block is a phase 2 block that had phase 1 heads. 99s were an odd year.
October 5, 20169 yr Author What timing belt do I use? Phase 2 2.2 belt, or phase 2 2.5 belt, or are those actually the same belts. Also will it work with the older 2 bolt tensioner?
October 6, 20169 yr Same belts. And as long as you have the corresponding bracket the two bolt tensioner combo will be the same.
October 12, 20169 yr Author So I got it running. Started right up and runs good, but the valves are really loud. I set the valves at .008 and .010. Is that correct, or at least close.
October 12, 20169 yr Author Also the idle is a bit high. All vacuum lines look good. Is there a way to adjust the idle
