OBD II question

Featured Replies

Hello: I live in Argentina. I am buying a second hand Legacy Ouback made in Japan. My former Legacy '95 was made in the US and was OBD II compliant. Does anybody know if a 1999 japanese made Outback is OBD II complaint too?

Thanks.

No Japanese models are OBDII compliant. You may be able to run the motor with a US ECU if you can get one. Then it would be OBDII compliant.

The one way to check with certainty is to look for an emissions label under the hood - if compliant it will reference "OBDII".

It is possible that even though it was made in Japan, it was made OBDII compliant, so it could be sold in the US.

Good Luck,

- Joe
