Moon roof drain leak

Featured Replies

re: 1995 Legacy LS Wagon with moon roof.

Problem: When it rains, water from the driver's side exterior moon roof drain hole soaks the interior headliner above the windshield under the visor, and travels down the A post behind the interior trim and drains onto the driver's side floor where the trim meets the carpet, which also gets totally soaked. This also happens to a lesser extent on the passenger side. It started this past winter after no such problem for the previous 8 years.

How is this drain supposed to work? Is there supposed to be a drain tube running from the drain hole in the corner of the moon roof frame to the bottom of the car (when I probed the hole with a small wire, the wire appeared behind the interior driver's side window trim)?

How might this problem be evaluated and repaired? Any references to documentation?

Thanks in advance for any reply.

I think the rails that the roof slides in need to be sealed again. The drains are rarely the problem.

I have described this somewhere on the forum before, if you search for "sun roof" or "Leaking" you should be able to find it.
