The engine purrs like a sewing machine, but I have 1st and 2nd gear only and I have to manually shift into them...won't go into Hi (Drive). I've replaced the modulator valve, which definitely needed replacing, but that did not correct the shifting problem. Has anyone else encountered this ? I've been told there are sensors which may correct this...anyone familiar with what they are called?

It seems like your governor gear is gummed up. Take a look at that article for tips on how to fix it.

I just realized you're in Louisville. I'll be there Labor Day weekend, if this doesn't fix it and you need a new trans, I can get you one for $100 bucks and bring it down then.
