my check engine light started going on and off about a year ago, but when i took it to get scanned, it came up code 51, neutral switch. the shop with the computer said that it shouldn't be a problem to drive and seemed perplexed by why my manual shift car should have a neutral switch in the first place. i've been driving it for a year and the light is now always on. the only problem is i need to go get the car to pass smog this month. any ideas on where to find this neutral switch?

the neutral switch is on the tranny, if I remember correctly on the driver's side. It's a black connector with a couple of wires running to it, not hard to find and replace. I had to replace mine for the same reason.
