Exhaust Size

Featured Replies

Hey All,

Gotta say love this forum....Good for a 3 month old Subie Newbie.....:)

My question to you all is.....I have a 91 Liberty (Aussie Legacy model) with the 2.2 boxer A/T no mods done to it (yet)....Just wondering....I want to get a nice sports exhaust system on it but just need advice to whats the best size performance wise....Don't wanna get something to big and being new to subies a little advice would be great.....Thanx Guys

The standard system isn't that bad a size, the only restrictions are the catalyst and the rear silencer.

For a normally aspirated 2.2, 60mm pipes should be plenty. Larger sizes are best reserved for turbocharged engines.

When buying a new rear silencer try to find something with dual pipes exiting the system. Two smaller pipes will flow as much as one larger one, but the big one will produce a low frequency drone on cruise....
