October 4, 200421 yr 2003 Forester owner. New to the forum. My question to the forum is one of embarrasment and an very important need to know the answer quickly sort of situation. When checking the tranny fluid, - found it low -- got in a rush and put tranny oil in the front end differential. What steps need to be taken NOW. Drain it, will it be okay. The manual calls for two different types of oil 1. tranny oil and 2. gear oil. Have not driven it and need to know how to handle the situation. Help will be greatly appreciated
October 5, 200421 yr Just drain the front differential, and put the appropriate gear oil back in. Pretty sure you need 80w90 GL5 oil. If you didn't put anything in the transmission, you should be ok with that. Just curious....how are you checking the level of the automatic transmission?
October 5, 200421 yr Change it when it's convienent. You can drive it. (If you did nothing at all and never changed it, you probably would never have a problem.)
