Gas Smell when vent is open

Featured Replies

Does anyone know what is wrong with my car. Its a 2000 Legacy Outback, and when I open the AC vent and have the AC off, and the fresh air open on my HVAC system, it smells like Gas.

If I hit the air recirculation button the gas smell goes away.

Checked the fuel filter and there are no leaks there.

Any suggestions?

Aaron

maybe you do have a leak and you just can't see it because gas tends to evap quickly. Maybe it was from some POS in front of you? Pop your hood and light a match while the car is running. This will pinpoint the leak....and get you a new car. Please don't do that. I wish you luck my friend. Is it a gas gas smell or exhaust like smell?

You could have a tiny hole in the gas tank. The fumes can be drawn into the cabin.
