computer code 7?

Featured Replies

I need help. My check engine light was on for months. I need my car IMed so I took it in to have the codes pulled. I own a 91 Subaru Loyale 4WD. The code came back as code 7. Which isn't a subaru code. Any ideas out there?

Ummm... my '90 Loyale is new to me, so I haven't checked out the differences between it and the rest of my herd, but...

How did you "have the codes pulled"? Did you try looking at the blinking LED under the steering column? (Might have to pull the trim panel imediately under the column to get a good look.)

Again, I am assuming that the ECU is similar...

Back some time ago, when I connected the diagnostic wires the LED would flash what I think was code 11, IIRC. My code list doesn't start until code 12 so I asked pretty much the same question. The answer was that the computer will flash a default code identifying itself as one model or another (or something like that)...but it really just means everything is OK with no errors to report. I assume that is what you're getting.

Are you getting the CEL even without the diagnostics turned on? If so, then I'd suggest disconnecting the battery for awhile and trying again. The "clear modes" configuration never seems to work for me, but the battery trick does.
