knoxvegas
Greetings. Just bought a '05 Outback 2.5i Limited and I have noticed a burned brake type odor coming from the air vents. This seems to occur after driving the car, shutting the car off for a short period of time (10 minutes or so) and then starting the car back up. The odor only lasts a short period of time after the car has started up. My theory is that this odor is caused by any of the new parts getting broken in (i.e. brakes, seals, gaskets, etc.). The odor is "trapped" in the car and doesn't have enough time to dissipate before starting back up. Any thoughts, concerns? I haven't approached the dealer yet. SevenSisters
Not to worry. I suspect you'll smell this for a while as the rust proofing and fresh paint burn off components (exhaust, engine, etc) as they heat up. I don't think you have a problem, but if it persists, see the dealer.
sirhcyad
Howdy Knoxvegas- We just bought a '05 Outback 2.5i Limited this weekend and love it but I have smelled something similar to what you describe. Did the smell ever stop? Thanks Greetings. Just bought a '05 Outback 2.5i Limited and I have noticed a burned brake type odor coming from the air vents.
