Guest 88gl
Hello all, My 88 Gl Wagon has bad u-joints all over the rear drive shaft. My trusty Chilton's and Haynes manuals show them being held in by snap rings, however they seem to be staked or "peened" in instead. What's the best way to remove these. I have considered grinding the stakes down - also just forcing out the u-joint and then smoothing the stake marks after. Has anyone dealt with these things before? Thanks!!!! Guest stephenw22
mine were staked in too, and I just took it to a driveline shop to get the u-joints replaced. it cost me CAD$130 (about USD$80) to get the old u-joints machined out, and new ones put in. The new ones have grease fittings, and are also held in place with snap rings. About 1/2 of that was labour.
Guest Nomad267
Mine had to be replaced too. I bought the u-joints for $48 CDN each, and my Dad installed them for me. They come as a kit with instructions, snap rings and grease fittings included. IIRC, Dad used the BFH method on a vise...'cause the instructions said so!
