December 12, 200421 yr Is the check engine light on? If so a code is stored that can be removed with an ODBII reader, provided non USA models have ODBII.
December 12, 200421 yr My '92 Legacy does this as well. On mine, it coincided with a code of 24 after doing the "handshake" procedure on Josh's site (http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/trans.html) which indicates something wrong with the duty C solenoid. Either way, I think it means something is amiss with the transmission or related electronics. My power light started flashing a few months before I began to get torque bind. Not sure if it's directly related...but it's definitely not something to be put off.
December 13, 200421 yr My kids 98 would blink 16 times on every start and it was the duty c solenoid. On 96 there may be a need to replace tailhousing while it's apart. Problem is steel bearing running against aluminum. In 98 or 99 the tailhousing was redesigned with a steel insert to prolong life, So there may be a failure related to that piece as well.
December 13, 200421 yr Yeah, there's a code stored in the TCM. I'm not sure if the procedure to get the codes on my site will work with your car, but you could give it a try.
