December 17, 200421 yr I REALLY NEED HELP ON THIS ONE. LOTS OF QUESTION MARKS FLYING OVER MY HEAD. FORESTER TEMP JUMPS UP TO ALMOST RED AT HIGH RPM ( OVER 4000 ) IT GOES UP IN TWO SECONDS AND THAN BACK DOWN JUST ABOUT IMMEDIATELY ? IN THE PROCESS IT THROWS SOME COOLANT OUT BUT OTHERWISE ENGINE RUNS GREAT. NOW THE MYSTERY HEAD GASKET ? WELL I HADE THE SAME IDEA AND THE SPARE ENGINE SO I DID REPLACE THE ENGINE.GUESS WHAT,SAME THING IS HAPPENING WITH DIFFERENT MOTOR WITCH IS GOOD FOR SURE.THEN I REPLACED RADIATOR AND THE CAP.PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. ONLY THING I HAVEN'T TOUCHED SO FAR IS THE THERMOSTAT BUT I REPLACED THE ENGINE REMEMBER ANY IDEAS WOULD BE HIGHLY APPRECIATED AS I HAVE RUN OUT
December 17, 200421 yr Did you burp the cooling system? I mean really burp it.... Filling the cooling system is fine and dandy but it needs to be 100% air free.

December 17, 200421 yr It might be beneficial to know the year and engine (Phase 1 or Phase 2) and PLEASE DO NOT WRITE IN ALL CAPS!! It means you're shouting when you write in all caps FYI. Thank you. Steve
December 17, 200421 yr Search for "coolant replacement". I did a thread on a sure-fire way to avoid air pockets. Also, you might want to remove and flush your radiator.
