New user CEL help needed

Featured Replies

Hey there,

I've been lurking about a year but I'm now needed some help with my CEL. It's been showing for over 8-9 months off and on. I have a 94 Legacy Wgn, FWD, Manual Trans, 117,000 miles. Fantastic car over the past three years!!

I pulled the codes via the instuctions on Josh's site then cleared the ECU and pulled them again. Same codes each time.

11-Crank angle sensor; 12-Starter switch; 23-Air flow sensor; 32-Oxygen sensor; 35-Canister purge solenoid valve.

When running the D Check code 35 came up.

So what do you all think? Start with the least expensive and work my way up?

Nothing has ever been replaced as far as I know and I've put 37,700 miles on it.

I'm pretty handy(rebuilt my VW bus 1600 motor) so don't be afraid to tell me I'm going to have to get into it. I haven't ran any of the tests in the Haynes yet.

Wow! You hit the jackpot. I wish I owned a parts store.

All of those individual components can be checked for proper operation. Josh may have the info on his Subaru Manual link. It would be under the fuel injection info. Not sure what Haines has, but I'd check each part before I replaced anything.

I think the air flow sensor can be cleaned. Do a search on this board.

How does it run? If it runs well and you're getting 26 mpg or so on the highway, there's no need to panic.

Trouble shoot the smallest code number first and work your way up.
