adding trailer lights to my 98 OB Imp

I'm going to install a trailer hitch on my OB which seems pretty ez but I checked out some sites who say the only way to install lighting is to hardwire it. No T-style connectors seem to be available like my S10 Blazer. Has anyone done this or know where some good instrutions might be?
