Please Help me !!! Whining noise in 1997 Man Forester Turbo

Featured Replies

Please help me as im going nuts. My Forester Turbo has developed a whine that i cant find. It does it when you are accelerating but only "just" accelerating. the second you accelerate Hard, it goes away. if your cuising and slightly accelrating it will come on. if you lift your foot slightly it goes away. I assume something is loose but have looked all over the show. Pattern seems to be around 2500rpm. The sound is like a hight pitched whine "no rattling or anything.Almost sounds like something rubbing/vibrataing but definately coming from up front. Can sometimes feel it slightly in the gas pedal if you concentrate.

Any help would be awesome..Jesse

Possibly the turbo waste gate opens slightly in that situation? I've had a few turbo cars, on some I could hear the turbo clearly when the waste gate opened.

Cheers for replying. I dont think thats its the waste gate cause im sure it wouldnt be that load. I can hear it over the stereo on way above average volume. Its horrendously loud.
