I AM missing another part?!

Featured Replies

I had that exhaust system that I go from soda1019 installed on my '78 Brat.

Well, the truck was still leaking exhaust into the cabin, big time!!

We popped the hood and found the problem. There is a 3/4" to 1" hose coming off each side of the engine into a "T" and another hose of the same size coming off the bottom of the "T" and hanging loose down toward the ground. It's puffing the raw exhaust fumes under the hood and they're coming right into the cabin.

Looking in HTKYSA it looks like the two hoses coming off the engine go into a "reed valve" and then into the air cleaner? Is this right?

Sounds like you are talking about the Air Suction Valve(s) (ASV). There were a couple of threads about this recently, one started by Karinvail but can't remember who started the second one. I know that Skip gave some good links to follow.

If these are part of tha ASV plumbing, I can't think of a good reason for the ratty idle unless all of the plumbing is still connected and the reeds are damaged (dumping exhaust into intake).

Thanks, I'll search karinvail's posts to see if I can find it.

The hose goes nowhere, just hangs down, pumping the raw exhaust into the engine bay? It was done on purpose and didn't just fall off, I'm sure it needs to connect to something.

The Buckley's manual has several set ups for '78... when something isn't there, it's tough to figure what should have been. My emissions diagram under the hood is faded and I can't read it.

I found those articles. I think they for newer models, I don't think there was a silencer on the '78. Can anyone here take a picture of theirs? Or should I just plug the hose and call it a day? I appreciate any help on this.

Thanks,

Mary
