86 EA82 WAGON??? ( carby)

Featured Replies

HEY ALL, Ok so heere is my new problem

86 4wd wagon carbed (NOT EFI) 5speed D/R

She runs but really rough, plugs wires, air filter, cap, rotor, and fuel filter new

Timing set @ 8 degrees BTDC feels like vacume leak but cant find one

So you get in fire it up and she runs but motor bouncing around in compartment after it warms up it smooths out

Then you get in and drive and you romp on the throttle and it just goes blah for a few seconds then it slowly picks up speed until it oens up @ 2200 rpms back fires when shifting soooo?

The only thing that i have found that remedes this is I put the timing @ 20 degrees BTDC and it still has a dead spot but runs 10 times better but still back fires while shifting Plus I really dont think that it should be timed this far out Any Ideas Thanks LT

sounds like a bad carb - had similar problems on mine several times

I would try running Seafoam (what many others have done with sucess), Techron additive, and/or Marvel Mystery oil (in specified amount) through the fuel system to see if that cleans it up

also double-check the 1000 vacuum hoses for leaks - carb issues and vacuum leaks are what precipitated my change to SPFI

LT, Check the vac can on the disty. Sounds like a blown diaphragm. Let me know
