tips for removing stuck oil strainer?

The title says it all really, my oil strainer is stuck and will not come out. Any techniques for getting it out?

I'm assuming that it has gotten gunked up. If so, some brake cleaner should de-gunkify it.

hmmm, i was hoping not to have to resort to that. Oh well, i hope oil strainers arn't too expensive.
