bad cv?

Recommended Posts

I have a 91 loyale 4wd, at any speed coast in neutral braking etc I hear a noice coming from the front passenger side. the inner cv boot is leaking grease but the boot is not torn, it soiunds like a bad bearing and its espially loud when turning to either the right or left and not so bad when just going strait. I was thinking either a bad wheele bearing or cv joint. Any ideas. oh also when I grab the inner part of the axle it moves alittle up and down is this normal or a sign of worn joint? Also my front end just feels loose all together almost like its floating around turns. The suby would be perfect if i could just figure out this front end prob. Thanks for the help guys... you rock like always. I'm more than willing to give out some fishing info in alaska for car help. Thanks again

Is it a cicking type toise?? if so it is probably a cv but you say that it is still there even when there is no drive from the engine on the shaft. Check your wheel bearings by jacking up your car and butting the car on a jack stand and grabing the suspect wheel at the top and bottom of the wheel and wriggle it if it moves excessivly it it is probbaly your wheel bearing. Is your cv nut on the end of the shaft loose? if not that could be your problem right there. i had that trouble at work one day on a 91 RS turbo liberty. i thaught the wheel was about to fall of cause the wheel bearing was that far gone but then i grabed the impact gut and tightened up the cv shaft nut and that was that problem fixed

Yeah its not a clicking, for sure something rubbing. I tried moving the wheel a while back and it did have a little movement, not alot though. I'll have to check the cv nut. Kind of frustrating because this noise just kind of came on. I don't know if this would have anything to do with it but I did have a motor mount come completly undone on the same side of the noise, I don't think the noise was as bad or at all before I fixed the mount. That couln't really do anything though could it? I'll take a look around, need to get fixed fishing season is coming strong and I need a dependable rig. thanks again guys josh
