April 22, 200520 yr Stop me if you've heard this one. My bleeder screw broke. I called my local dealer to see if they had one in stock. The parts man couldn't find it on the computer and even faxed me the diagram and , sure enough, it wasn't there. He called Subaru and they said I had to buy a new radiator. Ha ha. Fortunately the local auto parts store had a generic plastic radiator drain valve with 10 X 1.25 thread and with a little filing I was able to make that fit. I plan on picking one up in a junkyard when I get a chance. But I was wondering if anyone else had run into this before. Is there really no parts number for this screw? BTW, I discovered it was broken when I went to do a flush and fill and I could see a little antifreeze sitting in the slots of the screw. I turned the screw and only the top part came out. I had to easy-out the threaded part. Lucky it didn't leak worse than it did. Tom
April 22, 200520 yr Hmmm...I just bought one at a dealer about 2 weeks ago for $12! It came in it's own little baggie with a new "O" ring.
April 23, 200520 yr Nope – sorry, but I tossed the old part and bag. I don't think I kept the receipt since I just walked in and paid cash. It was in the database of the parts department, I remember because I didn't drive the car there and the guy said he needed the VIN, but since I didn't have it he just went by the model and year. Took him about 5 minutes but he found the number and had it in stock. I can't belive you'd need to get an entire radiator, if that were true the service departments would be replacing a lot of radiators. The part breaks off very easy, mine was weeping and I just tightened it less than an eighth of a turn and snapped the head off. I was lucky that there was enough of the slots left on the threaded stud part for me to back it out. I would also think that a radiator service place might be a source if the dealer insists that it isn't available. :-\
April 23, 200520 yr Author I'm sure I can find one in a junkyard, but I really can't believe the dealer when he says it's not available. I'd love to walk into the parts dept with a part number for it. Yeah, a new radiator. Sheesh. Tom
April 26, 200520 yr Tom, I sent you an email...I found the receipt: SUB45124AC000 is for the "Air Plug" SUB45128KA000 is for the "O-Ring" $8.20 & $1.84 respectively. Not sure why 2 part numbers, they were both in the same poly bag. Edit: I Googled the number, sans the SUB (45124AC000), and got a couple of hits including http://www.1stsubaruparts.com/oe_list.html and one in Russia.
