My dad has a '97 Impreza with 104,000 miles and ever since we've had the car (it had 42,000 miles when we bought it used), there has been a moaning/whirring sound coming from the engine. My independed Subaru garage diagnosed it as a failing A/C compressor clutch bearing. Has anyone else ever had this problem? If so, what did it cost to fix? How much of a hassle is it? We want to get it fixed, just want some more info from others who may have had this done.

The bearing may be going, but I'd just drive it until it dies. You'd be better off just buying a used compressor or rebuilt one.
