REPAIR speedo head??

Has anyone actually taken out a broken speedo head and figured out what causes them to go bad?? It would be nice if it was something as simple as a solder connection comming apart. I'm willing to pay the 100 bucks to get a new one but i'm more willing to fix one that's broken for much cheaper ;)

 

I found alot of posts where people have replaced them but never any where people have actually repaired the faulty one.
