Hello Everybody,

This is my first post. I just inherited a 1998 Forester and gave up my 1988 Cherokee. I have some introductory questions that I hope you can help me with.

1. I can’t seem to find an aftermarket maintenance manual (Haynes). Is there one for the Forester? If there isn’t should I go with a Legacy manual or the FSM?

2. I have the factory stereo upgrade with subs under the front seats. I am not happy with the quality of these subs and would like to upgrade them. Is there an amp for these subs that would also need to be upgraded?

I don't know if haynes or chiltons has anything.

Shoot me a pm, I've got something that might help.

As for the subs.....I think they have an amp built in. Personally, I'd just scrap them, and add an external amp and sub. At this point, you're probably going to be better off getting an aftermarket deck that has rca outputs.

Welcome to the board.

The only new-gen Subaru repair manual Haynes makes is for the Legacy, '90 to '98. The Forester is based on the Impreza platform, which is similar to the Legacy, but there are differences. The 2.5L engine, and everything bolted to it, is covered in detail.

The Haynes would be a good, cheap, handy reference, though not 100% accurate when it comes to your car.

Enjoy your new Subaru!
