I have a 90´ Loyale Wagon with an ea71 engine in it. It runs great an looks good to. But resently the oillamp sometimes lights for 2 secs. after starting the motor, is that a sign from hell?, or is just normal for a engine that har 297000 kms on the back. I use 10/40 semi synt. oil, and refill a little bit after maybe 3000 kms.

I wouldn't say this is normal, but i do not own an EA71. My EA82 goes out when the engine starts.

 

There are two things i can think of that may cause this. A low oil level, pop the bonet on level ground, get the oil dipstick out, clean the oil off, replace it back into the engine, pull it out and check the level. Its its low top up immediately.

 

The other would be a cheap oil filter without an anti drain back valve so when you shut down the car all the oil drains to the sump, so it takes a while for the pump to suck the oil back up from the sump and get pressure through the system. An OEM oil filter will work best.

 

Thats all i've got, someone else might know more... but its a start.

Well the oil filter is a cheap model, but it´s not the first time I use one. And by the way I checked the oil level, it was full.

 

Tomorrow I´ll call the dealer where I bought the car, and ask him. I´ll let you know what he says.

Change your oil... not your engine:cool:. Use quality products and your engine will reward you with a long, hassle free life.

Could be bad oil pump. Change the oil and filter first, see if that makes a difference. Then i'd be mesuring the pressure with a mechinical gauge, in order to asess the state of the iol pump and bearings.

I talked to my dealer, and the owner said that the oil pressureswitch just is tired, and that it is normal. But when Peter the spareparts guy said that he has never ever sold one. He ment other subie owners just has gotten use to it.

 

So I think that I watch a couple of days, and see if it gets wors.

suppose the sender is different than the4 car it is in. for example, a car with a dummy lite that has a motor(and sender) from an analog dash will have the oil lite on all the time and it will go off with low oil pressure.
