Guest Caboobaroo
ok, my 79 wagon has the points type distributor in it. I am trasnplanting the better non point type ditributor in it. My problem is that the new disy has 2 wires coming off of it (black wire and yellow wire). Where do they go and how are they hooked up? The one I pulled out had a single red wire on the side of it like someone put it in themselves. I am very confused and Andrew is at work:rolleyes:
Guest GlCraigGT
Yellow goes to the negative terminal on the coil and black goes to the positive terminal on the coil.
Guest Caboobaroo
thanks, that's what I thought from helping my friend Josh on his 1983 GL-10 that he bought from Andrew awhile ago. I wasn't sure so that whay I asked. Didn't want anything to go wrong with my wagon:p
Guest Caboobaroo
well now I find a connector that comes off of the ingnition control box that is on top of the coil. It has 3 wires going into it: a greenish bluish color, a pink, and a white. What does this connector go to? Also, is there anything else that I have to remove for my new disy to work? Guest wagon78
I replaced the points in my 78 wagon with an electronic ignition from an EA-81, and the 3 wires coming from the control box on the new coil/ignitor box went to the distributor. If that is in fact what you have, the pink (maybe faded red?) and white wires go to the red and white wires coming from the distributor. These go to the pickup coil inside the distributor, and the greenish-bluish goes to the grounded shield that surrounds the red and white signal wires. Actually, I did'nt even connect the green shield and havn't had any problems with the engine running, or interference with my radio. Guest Caboobaroo
well Andrew called me earlier and he told me how to hook it up. Tell me if it sounds right. He said that the yellow wire from the disy goes to negative and the black goes to positive. He also told me to take out the ingniter box and the ballast resistor. So I did that. He also said to connect the vacuum advance and plug off the hose thats supposed to go to the vacuum retard. ANd so I did this but now my battery is dead:( so I can't fire it up to make sure I did it right.
