I Just Changed The Tps On My 2001 Forester.first I Disconnected The Battery Then I Changed Out The Tps And Then I Re-connected The Battery. When I Started It Up It Idled Just Fine But My Check Engine Light Came On And My 'at' Light As Well.i Disconnected The Battery For An Hour And Rehooked It Up Only To Have The Same Result. I Then Unplugged The Engine Fuses For 15 Minutes And Put Them Back In Only To Have The Same Result. When I Attempted To Take A Test Ride The Transmission Jerked When Shifting Into Gear(its An Automatic)very Roughly.

Dont Know What Else To Do . I Am In Desperate Need Of Immediate Assistance And Help On This One.

You just can't just put it on and not set it up or you'll get what you got

Try this web site and try the set up procedure on the 2000 Legacy

Although the pin out at the ECM will not be the same ,you can try back probing at the TPS to get the voltage

Adjusting it is snap.

 

1. With the ignition on (engine not running), loosen the adjustment lock screws and rotate the body of the TPS so that the output is .5 VDC (one half volt). The output voltage is read off of the center terminal.

 

2. Tighten down the lock screws and your done.

 

As a final check, slowly rotate the throttle body open by hand and watch the output voltage smoothly climb to a maximum of approx. 4.5 VDC at full throttle.

I forgot to mention that the book allows a tolerance of +/- 10% on that .5 volt adjustment figure. e.g. .45 - .55 VDC.

 

It's not difficult to get it nailed right at .5 tho.
