My ole' 93 Impreza has been having some issues starting sometimes. When ever it does start, for about 30 seconds after start-up it sprays out carbon out of exhaust. It actually leaves black on the pavement (kinda looks like I was aiming black spray paint).

Also in same forum, see my post on trouble starting, this could relate to a bad ECT sensor? I don't know.

Over fueling, and possibly a failed catalyst. Over fueling could have killed the cat. Have the oxygen sensor (lambda sond) checked. Possibly the coolant temperature sensor - the ECU use this to help decide how to start the engine.

To test you can tap directly into the ECU harnesses, right?
