okay, i need some help. i find the vent/ac controls is our loyale a bit confusing. it seems like no matter what button i press defrost/heat/bilevel/ac whatever it seems like the AC is kicking in and the buttons are just changing where the air comes out of. if i hit heat and slide it to hot, it comes out hot, but when i first hit that button after being off it sounds and feels (power wise) like the AC is kicking in. is this normal?

 

is there a way to get vent air out of the center vents with the fans assisting? where i live it's often cool enough to use the air, but we want to keep the window up to keep our baby asleep, but it seems like the only way i get outside air without the AC is to have it on OFF and the lever on vent.

 

sounds dumb, but this is driving me crazy.

In my experience, the AC seems to come on which ever button you press, but then goes off if not appropriate. It should continue to run on A/C and defrost.

 

Bilevel should allow you to run fan-assisted outside air through the center vents.

i was using bilevel, but it still seems like the AC is kicking on. it seems like it's not used when you slide the thing off cold, but i don't want to be adding any heat that i don't want. maybe i can rig some light to tell when the AC is actually going.

If you are electrically inclined, or at least know basic wiring, go to wal mart or whatever and get some connectors, some wire, and a toggle switch, wire this into the wires in the HVAC control unit on the dash (The thing with the buttons..) that control the AC compressor. This way YOU control when the compressor comes on, which will enable you to use the "AC" posistion as a fan-forced vent posistion, without the AC compressor coming on.

you say it 'seems' like the AC compressor is kicking on. Have you looked under the hood to verify this? All you're looking for is whether or not the compressor is spinning.

 

IIRC, I thought the only times the compressor should be on is when 'AC' or 'Defrost' are selected. Beyond that, it shouldn't be on

no i need to check it, but on Bilevel it really really feels like it. both the air coming out and the hit on performance.
