Noise when gas pedal pressed

Featured Replies

My son has a 1990 Legacy wagon. He says it is making a whining noise when he presses the gas pedal. Could this be the fuel pump?

The fuel pump would be more likely to make a "whirr" noise.

It could be an electrical problem that interferes with the stereo and whines through the speakers. If the alternator diodes have burned out it will produce AC instead of DC and make a whining noise. It will also tend to get abnormally hot.

My car makes a whining noise that comes from under teh hood when I press teh gas pedal, especially after the little green light on the dash comes on :brow::grin::brow:
