Glad to hear Subaru came through with the 2006 for you. I hope it performs well for you.

While I haven't checked out the 2006, I would bet it is identical to the 05 in regards to trailer hitches. On the 05, the wiring harness is accessed by removing all the styrofoam inserts on the Left rear floor, then reaching up under the left rear side panel where you will find the harness taped in a loop. Grab and tear the taped loop to release the harness.
