99 forrester frontdiff bearing adjustment?

Recommended Posts

Hello,It`s my first time here and i`m hoping to get some feedback.I bought a 99 forrester with 71 k from ex wife, she was only owner. She has had a problem in the front when you made a tight turn something was binding.she had brought it in for serviceing and they kept telling her nothing was wrong.I changed the oils in the rear dif and the transmission with the proper Gl 5 oil, problem solved but

the cv joints in the front drive axles were a little loose as were the diff shafts.so i pulled apart the driver side first removed the diff bearing cap to replace the oil seal ,Beginning re-assemblytightening the bearing cap snuglythere is still at least .060 end play in shaft the roller bearing looks ok.I just came back from the library they heve service manuals ther was no mention of this.I tried to see if i could adjust the other side as well but it seemed tight.Would i be able to shim the bearings on each side to minimize the end play.thanks Jeff
