MikeD
I wanted to do some routine maintenance on my '03 Legacy L Wagon, e.g. change oil, filters (oil, air & fuel) and PCV Valve. I purchased the my supplies at a Consumer Auto Parts store which included a Fram FV277 PCV Valve that their computer recommended. I can't find the location of the PCV Valve on my Legacy. I've found something that looks like a PCV valve that screws into the engine but the hose going to it is to small and wouldn't fit the Fram PCV valve I have. Can anyone describe where the PCV valve is (or send me a picture) on this Subaru and let me know if I have the right valve. Thanks. Mike D
Legacy777
it should be just to the left of your throttle body. It may be slightly different then your car, but you can see the pcv valve on my manifold http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru/images/injectors/DCP_2468.JPG
sea#3
They might have supplied you with the wrong PCV valve . The location is accually on the block for the PCV, there is a fitting on the manifold that looks like te PCV , but if you follow that hose down to the block you will find the PCV valve Hope this helps SEA#
pacey
There apparently was a change in the PCV valve that the parts houses didn't pick up. After going to several parts houses and consistently getting the wrong part for my 2002 Legacy GT sedan, I finally went to the dealership and paid about $18 (ouch!) to get the correct one. The dealerships's parts guy didn't even look up the number, he just said it would be between one of two different ones that Subaru seemed to use on everything. I could tell from the size of the hose barb fitting which one it was and it fit fine. I'm pretty sure that there would be an equivalent one at the parts houses if they only knew which one it was. I decided to be safe and use the one from the dealer. Best of luck to you. Pacey
MikeD
Pacey & SEA#3 are right on the money! I also went to my local Subaru dealer and paid $17.68 for a Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., Subaru, Genuine parts part labeled Valve Compl-Cont (Part # 11810AA040) e.g. the PCV Valve. Consumer Auto Parts definitely has it wrong in there parts computer, because there's no way the Fram PCV valve (Part # FRA FV277) would have fit in my 2003 Legacy L wagon. This is unfortunate because the Fram PCV valve was a bargin at only $4.19. The location given for the PCV valve was very good also. To add a few landmarks: if your looking at the engine on the left side of the air output from the black plastic airfilter box, in between the gray metal manifold and the black plastic air filter housing is a smooth black rubber tube that is shaped like an inverted "L" that extends horizontally from a fitting on the gray metal manifold and makes a 90 degree bend and drops vertically down to the gray metal engine block. The PCV valve is not the fitting that is easy to get to and attached to the gray metal manifold. If you remove it, which I did, it's just a tube and you can see through it. The PCV valve is actually located down at the other end of the smooth black rubber tube. You'll need an extension bar on your deep 3/4" socket to remove it. Like they say a picture is worth a thousand words.
