It' been a while since I last posted. I am having problems with My soob. It has been overheating, so I put a new water pump and thermostat in it. This did not fix the problem. I've been adding pre-mixed anitfreeze every two days because it keeps leaking out????? The other day, it left me stranded and a pinhole leak formed in radiator. Marked the leak and had it patched. After I put everything back together and filled the radiator, I tried to start it to make sure the patch would hold. While the engine was turning, radiator fluid spewed out of the radiator all over the engine. I put the radiator cap on and turned the engine over and it spewed radiator fluid out from under the cap. Any ideas as to why this is happening? I know it's not supposed to, I just don't know why. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

is your rad. cap holding pressure? just a bad pressure cap was to blame for my last leak. but yours sounds much worse than that, if you use the word spewed...

The first thing that comes to mind is a head gasket. You can test it by getting a combustion gas kit. I know NAPA used to sell them, they still might. You run the engine with the cap off the radiator. The kit consists of a tube with a rubber cone-shaped bottom. You put the test fluid in the tube, and if the gases coming from the radiator are combustion gases, the fluid changes colors. I can't think of anything else that would make your engine puke antifreeze like that, especially if you've already replaced the thermostat.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't know how I'm gonna get the radiator fluid into the tube without it blowing all over the engine compartment and more importantly on the alternator. Could you explain in a little more detail??? I'm not very mechanically inclined. Why would a bad or blown head gasket cause radiator fluid to gush out of the radiator????

Here's a picture of what it looks like. The cone end goes into the radiator opening. This particular model (made by Lisle) has a vacuum fitting you put on any vacuum port. It draws gases from the radiator. If the gases in the radiator are combustion gases, the fluid turnes from blue to yellow. And yes, a blown head gasket can put a tremendous amount of pressure into your cooling system, as well as quickly adding heat to it.
